I am a medical officer at the Refugee Health Screening Service at Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, a job that I have been doing since 1992. We examine all refugees at the centre and screen for tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, manage their day-to-day acute health needs and chronic health issues. We vaccinate, provide everyone with a summary of their medical records on departure, and then electronically transfer all the medical records to their new GP. I work part time and mainly screen high-needs women and act as a resource for women’s health.
I also work half a day a week for Family Planning.
