The flu vaccine

Prevention and protection is the best defence against the flu. Getting a flu vaccine will help reduce the risk of you or your patients getting really sick or having to go to the hospital.

Everyone aged 6 months and over is able to get the flu vaccine through their local GP or pharmacy.

For some people the flu vaccine is free. Check if you or your patients are eligible for a free vaccine.

  1. Protect patients at greater risk of developing complications.
  2. Improved patient safety, improved employee safety and decreased healthcare expenditure.
  3. Healthcare workers have a duty of care to protect vulnerable patients from the serious threat of influenza illness.
  4. Relying on patients being vaccinated for their personal protection is not enough, many vulnerable people have a poor immune response to the vaccine or may not have been vaccinated this year.
